All You Need to Know About Used Car Registration in Dubai

When you are looking to register a used car in Dubai, you need to be aware of the rules and regulations that are associated with it. Whether you are looking to buy or sell a used car, there are no legal restrictions associated with the process whether before or after registration. This applies even when the vehicle is an imported one. The only thing that you need to focus on is to get a valid buyer for your car.

Generally, you are going to receive deals that present you with less value than the trending average market value. This applies to all imported vehicles than vehicles that are first officially sold in UAE and GCC countries. Every vehicle that is first officially sold in UAE or in GCC countries carries a Gulf Specification Certificate that comes attached to the vehicle. This is something that you cannot find with the imported vehicles.

The cost for registering a used vehicle for the first time at RTA Dubai comes to around 800/-. This amount is all inclusive of test, registration, installing of new plate numbers as well as the Salik - Dubai toll system - tag. The registration renewal charges are less than AED 500/- and includes a one-time test along with renewal.

If the car owner does not have a Dubai driving license but still wants to go ahead with registering a vehicle for the first time, the individual needs to pay a one-time new file opening extra charge of AED 200/-.

Apart from the charges that are mentioned above, a person needs to pay AED 330/- for GCC Certification cost for an imported car in case it comes with non GCC specification as mentioned in current ownership document. This charge is not applicable for all cars that are already certified in the UAE.

To register a car to any individual’s name in the city of Dubai, a person needs to show a valid residence visa stamped in passport. The individual should provide copies of the same. If a person has a resident visa in some other emirate but wants to register a vehicle in Dubai, he or she must have residence tenancy contract along with documents for residence/trade license ownership as well as DEWA (Dubai Electricity and Water Authority) bills assigned in their own names in Dubai. These documents will be verified by RTA Dubai after which the originals will be returned to the individual and copies of the same will be retained.

These same procedures are applicable for all UAE Traffic departments. To learn about any recent changes or variations, individuals are advised to get in touch with respective Traffic departments and confirm the same.
